WAZE | EARLY CERTAINTY
#NowPlaying Waze – Hardcore (94′)
So what’s going on in the world of Waze right now?
Basically preparing for Born I’s new album, ‘Tomorrow Is Today’ dropping on January 11th. As far as me though I’m working on a prelude to my mixtape ‘Many Truths’ called ‘Early Certainty’. It’s set to release in late Spring early Summer. Early Certainty is basically raw Hip-Hop with classic Hip-Hop beats and lyrical content based on a modern day struggle that everyone can relate to. If you follow my music then I definitely won’t disappoint. I’m also planning on getting two music video’s filmed by Paola. She is a talented photographer and director. She did a great job on Born I’s music video and she’s a fresh face.
How long have you been rapping?
I’ve been respected for my skills since I was about twelve years old.
What do you represent? What’s your Hood?
First and foremost, I represent Hip-Hop. Not trying to be egotistical or anything like that, this is not single handed. That’s just what I want to represent. My hood? Del Ray, which is Alexandria, VA also known as AVA.
What makes you different then any other happy go lucky wanna be rappers out here in VA?
Because the niggas are happy go lucky (laughs). When I rap, I try to share my struggles that I know everybody can relate to. Also, I have real respect for the culture and real lyrics.
Nowadays rappers just put out tapes to rap? Is their substance behind your music?
(Laughs) Hell yeah my brother. All of my music has soul and thought behind it. I would like to think bring emotion to the track as well. You will definitely know how I’m feeling at that time when you hear my words.
Any beef goin’ on?
No beef. I’m trying to flourish and it’s all about progression.
Who are the closest rappers to you? Do you have a crew?
I started with my brothers from Southeast, DC. Stereotype group and Yung Sleep, they taught me a lot. I official came in the game with SINO. Our crew was GSD (Get Shit Done) and the Nawf Face Muzik mixtape was the first mixtape we put out, it was hosted by DJ Big Mike. Over time people had to do different things and deal with real life, but SINO and I are working on new material. Right now I’m making music with Born I and a part of the G&D New Sinatra collective.
Who is your biggest influence in Hip-Hop?
To be honest when I get into writting mode I listen to Neo-Soul, Funk, and R&B to give my brain some air space. The first Hip-Hop group to influence me was ‘Bone Thugs and Harmony’. They weren’t my favorite group but their whole era was just classic. KRS-One is my biggest influence so far.
So what is the “Early Certainty” project about?
Well, Early Certainty in a literal sense, represents the determination and will that I have now. In a musical sense, it represents the very focused and potent music that I can give you early in my career. To me this is more like a project, I only used one producers beats on it. Bronze Nazareth from Wu-Tang, Shouts to the Wu. His beats really inspired me and fully represent what I wanted to get off my chest first. His beats are very organic energy and are grimy at the same time.
What does your debut mixtape “Many Truths” bring to the table?
Many Truths is more of a traditional mixtape. A melting pot of industry and original beats and bars. You can expect to hear me over some classic joints as well as some joints I did with other producers. I even produced a couple beats on there. Many Truths as an idea has been in my head for a few years. So I figure, if it remained in my head for so long, then it’s meant to happen (laughs). The difference between Many Truths and Early Certainty is the fact that Many Truths is a real mixtape. Early Certainty on the other hand is more strict.
What’s your dream collab? If you could be on a track with anyone, who would it be and why?
In this day in age. One M.C. I would have to say….Styles P. I admire his consistency. He spits about, the retribution..The good and the bad side.
What’s next for Waze? You told us about your mixtape and music videos..any further plans?
In late 2011 I plan to release a street album with ‘IDK the Producer’. Shoutout to W.I.E.R.D. Music Group.
Alright, last question my man. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see me as being a highly respected M.C. with a loyal fan base..almost like a cult following. Mostly, I just hope to open the minds of my supporters through my music.
Shout outs?
First and foremost shout out to the brother Eyebone, Sino, the whole AVA, The DMV, G&D New Sinatra Family, And all the producers that let me get beats off the strength of my talent Also to everyone that I have peacefully encountered through my journey in life so far.
